Q&A: SeddyMac Talks Come Up

Sed1The Hip-Hop landscape is an endless field with a plethora of different rappers. Up and coming rappers are a huge part of this landscape as there are more and more who are coming out with music every day. The internet makes it a whole lot easier for rappers to create their opportunity for that mainstream success that all artist strives for.

Many artists use websites such as Soundcloud, Youtube, iTunes, Spotify and other music and video streaming sites to bring their music directly to the masses and generate a profit while doing it. These sites along with social media and blogging outlets create a space for up and coming rappers to generate a fan base that can carry over into mainstream and underground success at a faster rate.

One up and coming rappers who has used social media and streaming sites to create a foundation for himself is SeddyMac, who looks to be one of the next possible breakout stars in hip-hop. SeddyMac is a young rapper out of Tennessee who is starting to generate buzz online. With a versatile style that has a mix of melodic hooks and distinctive flows that gives him an old school feel, SeddyMac has shown that he has a lot of potential to become a staple in hip-hop for a very long time.

SeddyMac took the time to have a Q&A with me about his up and coming rap career although we did not speak in person due to his location he was able to email me a response to these questions.

For the people that don’t know who you are, give us a little bit about your background.

SeddyMac: My name is Sedrick McLean AKA SeddyMac. I’m a hip hop artist born in Fayetteville, NC. Currently residing in Clarksville, TN.

What brought you to want to pursue a career in music?

SeddyMac: I’ve been into music ever since I was in the crib singing Barney songs. I’ve always wanted to sing. Still, do actually. My start to rap was interesting.  When I was a senior in high school I was peer pressured into freestyling. I always thought being a rapper was dumb. Years down the way I’m still making music. Rap music.

What is your biggest goal that you hope to achieve in your career?

SeddyMac: To make a living that is reasonable (or unreasonable) enough to stop working a 9 to 5.

Who are some of your influences musically?

SeddyMac: My main influence was Drake when I first started. Then J. Cole later, Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar.

What is your creative process when you create music? Do you need a certain kind of atmosphere or are you comfortable under any conditions?

SeddyMac: I’m very solo when it comes to my creation. I’m easily distracted and uncomfortable writing around people. I get inspired randomly from 3 to 4am wake ups to drinking huge energy drinks and eating candy.

What are some of the projects and shows that you are working on now?

SeddyMac: Don’t hold me to this but I’m planning on dropping 2 EPs this year. The Level Up EP is dropping Summer 17. The other untitled EP I’d like to drop in the Winter. My next show, Tour De Ville, is June 3rd.

Who are some other artists that you enjoy working with? And who are some artists that you hope to work with in the future?

SeddyMac: I mostly work by myself, but out of everyone I’ve collaborated with I liked working with Boooka, JC, Tim Gent and Case Arnold. I’m a Tennessee artist so I’d like to work with other dope MCs and producers in the state. People like Petty, STAN, Isaiah Rashad, Brian Brown, Mike Da Vinci. The list goes on.

Speak about what you hope the readers get out of our interview. And what is one song that you have done that you want all of the readers to check out?

SeddyMac: Just to give a look into my music, what I stand for and personal background. If you’re interested in what I have to offer, feel free to check out my latest music video titled More Of That on YouTube and Goku Black dropping on my SoundCloud June 2nd.
