Stop Hatin’ On LeBron

LeBron James is a once in a lifetime athlete. At 6’8, 260 pounds his physical stature unmatched. His combination of power and speed is unheard of. The basketball I.Q. that LeBron possesses is all-time great. Somehow if all of the gifts that LeBron possesses, he is somehow one of the most polarizing professional athletes of all-time.

In the summer of 2010, LeBron James made the decision to take his talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat along with multi-time all-stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.During this time LeBron and the Heat became villains all throughout the league. And now he plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside another pair of all-stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. For some reason, people have tried to use the fact that LeBron has played with all-stars to discredit his abilities and his legacy. I have never understood how someone could question the credibility of LeBron James as a basketball player. People constantly want to say well he couldn’t get it done without a “Super Team”. Name another all-time great who hasn’t done it without another great player. Michael Jordan had Pippen and Rodman, Kobe had Shaq and then Kobe had Pau Gasol (who in my opinion is an overrated player but that’s for another day), Magic had Kareem and Worthy, and Bird had Kevin Mchale and Robert Parrish… Should I keep going? Why must we degrade LeBron’s legacy because he decided to join up with some great players?

LeBron James is a top 3 player of all time and at the very least a top 5 player. His stats are undeniable and his effect on the team he has played for is spectacular. LeBron for his career has averaged 27 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists per game. He is on pace to be the first player in NBA history to average those career numbers. LeBron (along with James Jones) is the first player since 1950s and 1960s Boston Celtics to reach the NBA finals 6 straight times and the crazy part about it is that he took two different franchises in the succession.

LeBron James’ presence makes you an instant contender. Whether you love or hate LeBron you cannot deny his legacy. His stats are among the best. LeBron’s team success has been validated with his 3 championships and 7 finals appearances. LeBron isn’t even showing any signs of slowing down and at the pace that he is on, he will become the only player in the history of the NBA to be top 5 all-time in scoring and top 10 in assists. And if the last 6 seasons have been any indication he will have at the least 3 finals appearances in the future. Doesn’t that put him in the conversation as the greatest player to ever play? I think it does and I think everyone else needs to recognize that we are watching history unfold right before our eyes.
